Software Engineer, Products & Solutions

Responsibilities

• Turn business and user requirements into implementation plans, technical choices and clear delivery milestones.
• Build applications, interfaces, backend services, databases, APIs and integrations.
• Write maintainable code, use version control and document important design decisions.
• Choose and combine AI coding tools, models and agents to research, implement, test and debug software. Review their output and take responsibility for the result.
• Write automated tests, investigate failures and check edge cases before release.
• Deploy and monitor software, troubleshoot production issues and improve reliability, performance and running costs.
• Work with clients, users, vendors and domain specialists to clarify requirements, resolve blockers and support acceptance testing.
• Build security, appropriate access controls, data validation and auditability into the systems you deliver.
• Contribute to post-acquisition improvement projects by modernising software, integrating systems and automating workflows to support business growth.
• Communicate progress, risks and technical trade-offs clearly.

Minimum qualifications

• Ability to write and debug code in at least one general-purpose programming language, such as Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, Go or C++.
• Understanding of core programming concepts, common data structures and basic algorithmic efficiency.
• Practical experience building a software project using APIs, persistent data storage or a user interface.
• Familiarity with Git and the fundamentals of testing and debugging.
• Ability to break an unfamiliar problem into manageable steps and explain your implementation choices.
• Evidence of work you can demonstrate and discuss, whether from employment, internships, coursework, independent projects or open-source contributions.

Recent graduates and early-career engineers are welcome. A computer science or related degree is useful, but equivalent practical experience is welcome. You do not need prior experience in every area of the role.

Preferred experience

• Building web or desktop applications with responsive, accessible interfaces.
• Working with relational databases, data modelling and third-party integrations.
• Deploying applications to cloud environments and using automated build, test or deployment workflows.
• Working with LLM APIs, tool calling, agent workflows and evaluations.
• Handling background tasks, streaming updates, session state and error recovery.
• Managing permissions, credentials and sensitive data securely.
• Building billing, payment reconciliation or operational software.

Familiarity with electricity utilities, public-sector systems or other regulated environments is a plus, not a requirement.

You’ll take responsibility for clearly defined deliverables, with room to own larger projects as you demonstrate sound judgment and reliable execution. The scope of responsibility will reflect your experience and the requirements of each project.
